About Us

Welcome to our 2009 season!!

We continue to feature some of Columbus’ most outstanding musicians and celebrated artists from around the country.

Naumburg Cello Competition winner Clancy Newman returns for the final two concerts of the season, other guests include violist Victoria Chiang, from the Peabody Conservatory & Aspen Music Festival, cellist Mark Rudoff from The Ohio State University, violinist/violist Korine Fujiwara and violist Brett Allen from the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and Canadian pianist Cameron Bennett, Professor of Piano at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Our opening concert - Trio de Force - features two incredible trios for violin, viola and piano - the famous "Kegelstatt" Piano Trio in E-flat major, K. 498 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (arranged for this instrumentation by the composer!) and the wonderful Piano Trio, Op. 30 by Belgian composer Joseph Jongen. Also on this program are the magnificent Four Trio Miniatures by Paul Juon and the Sonatina for Violin and Piano by American composer and violinist Fritz Gearhart.

Our second week - Beethoven: For and After - is a thrilling program that will highlight some of the pinnacles of the chamber music repertoire. Featured works include Beethoven's String Quartet, Op. 127,  Shostakovich's Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57, and the Sonata for Violin and Piano by American composer Russell Platt.  The final week - Step it Up! - features the wonderfully romantic Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 38 by American composer Arthur Foote and Beethoven's monumental String Quartet in A minor, Op. 132.

Brief commentary from the stage will explain and connect the works on each concert, and possibly give you a new insight into the music as you listen.

Come join us for these outstanding programs. Because we will continue to offer the concerts free of charge, it is vital that if able, you make a contribution. I believe that price should not be a barrier to anyone who wishes to attend these concerts, but only through your generosity will we be able to bring these concerts to life. Stay after the concerts for a modest reception and an opportunity to meet and talk with the artists. Both of our venues, First Community Church in Columbus, and our new venue in Delaware - Asbury United Methodist Church, offer you the chance to hear and experience music in outstanding acoustics, and close enough to the artists to catch every nuance of the performance.

I am counting down the days and I hope you will put our dates on your calendar.

Chas Wetherbee
